How to Get Pregnant
<p><a href="http://adam.about.com/encyclopedia/Early-pregnancy.htm"><img src="http://z.about.com/d/pregnancy/1/0/D/X/3/embryoadamblog.jpg" alt="" /></a></p> <p>About half of the people who become pregnant were planning on becoming pregnant, or even if they were planning it, they may not be taking really good care of themselves. So it's really important to plan for pregnancy before you try to get pregnant. This makes the chance of a healthy baby and pregnancy much higher than simply throwing caution and birth control to the wind.</p> <p>Do you know what it takes to get pregnant? How often do you try? What should you avoid eating? Do you know what you need to do before you get pregnant? <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/ovulatio1/a/signsovulation.htm">When do you ovulate? </a> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/gettingpregnant/a/ovulationquiz.htm">Test your preconceptional knowledge.</a></p> <p><strong>Related:</strong></p> <ul> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/ovulatio1/a/signsovulation.htm">5 Signs You're Ovulating</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/signssymptoms/a/25signsofpg.htm">25 Signs of Pregnancy</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/announcingyourpregnancy/ss/pgnews.htm">Pregnancy Announcements</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/ovulation/l/aa022501a.htm">Ovulation Primer</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/canigetpregnantif/Can_I_get_pregnant_if.htm">Can I get pregnant if...</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/fetus/ig/First-Trimester-US-Gallery/index.htm">1st Trimester Ultrasounds</a> </li> </ul> <p><br class="spacer_" /></p> <p>Photo (c) A.D.A.M.</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/07/how-to-get-pregnant-2.htm">How to Get Pregnant</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/">About.com Pregnancy & Childbirth</a> on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010 at 05:58:35.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/07/how-to-get-pregnant-2.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/07/how-to-get-pregnant-2.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://pregnancy.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/07/how-to-get-pregnant-2.htm&#038;zItl=How to Get Pregnant">Email this</a></p>
When were you born?
<p>Happy Labor Day! In my family we like to tell your birth story the night before your birthday. It is actually quite fun and something that started from me quizzing my mom about my birth, which she limited to my birthday eve. If you haven't asked about your birth story - do so! It might be quite interesting to hear. If you like birth stories, you can also <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/u/sty/birthstories/readerbirthstories/">read them on the site</a> or <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/u/sty/birthstories/readerbirthstories/form.htm">share your birth story</a><a></a>.</p> <p><br /> <strong>Related:</strong></p> <ul><p><br class="spacer_" /></p> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/duedates/l/bldayofweek.htm">When is Your Birth Day?</a> </li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/u/sty/birthstories/readerbirthstories/form.htm">Share your birth story</a> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/pregnancyphotos/l/blbirthdayfacts.htm">Birthday Facts</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/gettingpregnant/l/blpregcalc.htm">Due Date Calculator</a> </li> </ul><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/06/when-were-you-born.htm">When were you born?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/">About.com Pregnancy & Childbirth</a> on Monday, September 6th, 2010 at 05:48:26.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/06/when-were-you-born.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/06/when-were-you-born.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://pregnancy.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/06/when-were-you-born.htm&#038;zItl=When were you born?">Email this</a></p>
New Pain Management Technique for After a C-Section
<p>After having a conversation on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.facebook.com/aboutpregnancy/">Facebook</a> about pain relief after a c-section, someone commented about <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.iflo.com/prod_onq_classic.php">On-Q</a>.  This is a pump device that is left place at the incision site.  It can give pain medication for 2-5 days post surgery, requiring less narcotics.</p> <p>It sounds great - anyone tried it?</p> <p><strong>Related:</strong></p> <ul> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/cesareansection/ss/c-section-scars.htm">A Guide to C-Section Scars</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/cesareansection/a/aftercsec.htm">After a C-Section</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/cesareansection/ss/cesarean.htm">C-Section Birth</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/cesareansection/a/cesareanrecover.htm">C-Section Recovery</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/cesareansection/a/cesareans.htm">Crash Course on Cesareans</a> </li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/cesareansection/ig/Cesarean-Scar-Gallery/">C-Section Scar Gallery</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/laborbirth/a/avoidcesarean.htm">5 Ways to Avoid a C-Section</a></li> </ul><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/05/new-pain-management-technique-for-after-a-c-section.htm">New Pain Management Technique for After a C-Section</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/">About.com Pregnancy & Childbirth</a> on Sunday, September 5th, 2010 at 09:38:13.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/05/new-pain-management-technique-for-after-a-c-section.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/05/new-pain-management-technique-for-after-a-c-section.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://pregnancy.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/05/new-pain-management-technique-for-after-a-c-section.htm&#038;zItl=New Pain Management Technique for After a C-Section">Email this</a></p>
Flu Shots in Pregnancy
<p>As the fall approaches, so does flu season.  While there is a lot less hype about the seasonal flu and the H1N1 flu virus of 2009, pregnant women will still be given the option of receiving the regular flu shot.  It is currently recommended that all pregnant women be given the seasonal flu shot by the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/vaccine/pregnant.htm">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)</a>. The nasal vaccine is not recommended.</p> <p>Pregnancy can lower your immune defenses and make you more susceptible to the flu.  But it can also cause you to become more ill if you do get the flu.  The flu shot will protect you and your baby from the flu.  Your baby's immunity will last up to six months after birth.</p> <p>As with any treatment or immunization, you should talk to your doctor or midwife about the specifics for you.  There are some reasons, like allergies to ingredients in the flu vaccine, that you may not wish to take the flu shot.  The conversation with your midwife or doctor will help you make the best decision for you and your baby this flu season.</p> <p>Other things that you can do to help avoid the flu:</p> <ul> <li>Wash your hands often</li> <li>Avoid people who are ill or have flu-like symptoms</li> <li>Breastfeed your baby as your immunities pass to baby</li> <li>Wear your baby, so that others aren't able to touch baby</li> </ul> <p>If you do think you're ill, contact your provider.  Keep your fever down with <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/medicationinpreg/qt/tylenol.htm">medications</a> and stay well hydrated.  Don't try to push through it.  Rest and take care of yourself to avoid complications like <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/pretermlabor/a/pretermlabor.-KJn.htm">preterm labor</a> and pneumonia.</p> <p><strong>Related:</strong></p> <ul> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/medicationinpreg/qt/tylenol.htm">Is Tylenol safe in pregnancy?</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/healthduringpreg/qt/vaccine.htm">Vaccinations in Pregnancy</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/healthduringpreg/a/aaremcolds.htm">Colds and Coughs in Pregnancy</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/medicationinpreg/a/medsinpreg.htm">Medications in Pregnancy</a></li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://coldflu.about.com/od/faqaboutthecold/a/pregnantcolds.htm">Getting More Colds in Pregnancy?</a> </li> </ul><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/04/flu-shots-in-pregnancy.htm">Flu Shots in Pregnancy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/">About.com Pregnancy & Childbirth</a> on Saturday, September 4th, 2010 at 10:04:57.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/04/flu-shots-in-pregnancy.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/04/flu-shots-in-pregnancy.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://pregnancy.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/04/flu-shots-in-pregnancy.htm&#038;zItl=Flu Shots in Pregnancy">Email this</a></p>
Are we too impatient about getting pregnant?
<p>I'm noticing a trend and I wonder if you see it too - people who are really upset when they don't get pregnant the first month or so that they are trying to conceive.  Don't get me wrong, I get why they'd be upset pregnancy-wise, but <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/gettingpregnant/qt/gettingpregnant.htm">realistically and statistically</a>, conception doesn't work that way.</p> <p>Part of it is, in my opinion, that we spend so much time worrying about avoiding pregnancy and thinking about birth control, that we honestly believe that one time we don't use birth control we'll get pregnant.  If it works that way when you don't want to get pregnant, surely it works that way when you do want to get pregnant.</p> <p>The current recommendations are that you should seek help after twelve months of trying to conceive with well timed intercourse.  (This number drops to six months if you are over 35.)  I certainly think that there are <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://infertility.about.com/od/tryingtoconceive101/a/symptomsrisks.htm">times when you could be seen sooner</a> and certainly I'd advocate that everyone who wants to get pregnant should start with a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/gettingpregnant/a/planningpreg.htm">preconception check up</a>.  That would be a great time to talk about ways to identify when you ovulate so that you can do your part for the well-timed intercourse portion.</p> <p>Certainly infertility is a problem, but you're not infertile if you've only been trying a month or two.  My best guess is what you need to start with is some advice on charting your <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/gettingpregnant/qt/menstrualcycle.htm">menstrual cycle</a> to pinpoint <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/ovulatio1/a/signsovulation.htm">ovulation</a>. The good news is that having this information will help you get pregnant sooner, or be more prepared when you see someone about your cycles.</p> <p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?nav=messages&#38;webtag=ab-pregnancy&#38;tid=73850">What do you think is causing us to be so anxious?</a></p> <p><strong>Related:</strong></p> <ul> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/gettingpregnant/a/planningpreg.htm">Preconception Check Up</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/gettingpregnant/qt/menstrualcycle.htm">Menstrual Cycle Basics</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/ovulatio1/a/signsovulation.htm">5 Signs You're Ovulating</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/gettingpregnant/qt/gettingpregnant.htm">How Long Does It Take To Get Pregnant?</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/gettingpregnant/l/blcalovulate.htm">Ovulation Calculator</a></li> </ul><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/03/are-we-too-impatient-about-getting-pregnant.htm">Are we too impatient about getting pregnant?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/">About.com Pregnancy & Childbirth</a> on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 11:02:02.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/03/are-we-too-impatient-about-getting-pregnant.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/03/are-we-too-impatient-about-getting-pregnant.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://pregnancy.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/03/are-we-too-impatient-about-getting-pregnant.htm&#038;zItl=Are we too impatient about getting pregnant?">Email this</a></p>
Budgeting for Breastfeeding
<p>One of the important reasons that many families list for breastfeeding is that it is free.  This is a true statement.  But I'm here to offer you some advice.  Set some money aside for breastfeeding costs.  You might use this money for a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/newbornbabies/qt/whentocalllc.htm">lactation consultant</a>, a nursing bra, a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/babyproducts/bb/bybbreastpump.htm">breast pump</a>...  And yet these costs might come as a budgetary shock if you haven't planned for it.  Worst case scenario, you budget the money and don't use it. Then take the money and go get a massage or spend it on yourself in some other pampering way.</p> <p><strong>Related:</strong></p> <ul> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/babyproducts/bb/bybbreastpump.htm">Before You Buy a Breast Pump</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/newbornbabies/qt/whentocalllc.htm">When to Call a Lactation Consultant</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/feedingyourbaby/a/breastfeedclass.htm">5 Signs You Have a Breastfeeding Class</a> </li> <li> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/c/ec/69.htm">Breastfeeding Class Online</a> </li> </ul> <p><strong>Thrifty Thursday from About.com Parenting</strong></p> <ul> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://preschoolers.about.com/b/2010/09/02/thrifty-thursday-trade-in-baby-gear-at-toys-r-us-get-25-percent-off.htm">Trade in Baby Gear at Toys "R" Us, Get 25 Percent Off</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://singleparents.about.com/b/2010/09/02/thrifty-thursday-get-your-hair-cut-at-great-clips-and-receive-a-coupon-for-10-off-at-old-navy.htm">Get Your Hair Cut at Great Clips, and Receive a Coupon for $10 Off at Old Navy</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://stayathomemoms.about.com/b/2010/09/02/thrifty-thursday-sell-your-old-sporting-goods-today.htm">Sell Your Old Sporting Goods Today</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/a/257263.htm">Budgeting for Breastfeeding</a></li> <li><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://parentingteens.about.com/b/2010/09/02/money-saving-tips-purchase-snacks-at-the-grocery-store.htm">Purchase Snacks at the Grocery Store</a></li> </ul><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/02/budgeting-for-breastfeeding.htm">Budgeting for Breastfeeding</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/">About.com Pregnancy & Childbirth</a> on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 at 05:00:37.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/02/budgeting-for-breastfeeding.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/02/budgeting-for-breastfeeding.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://pregnancy.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/09/02/budgeting-for-breastfeeding.htm&#038;zItl=Budgeting for Breastfeeding">Email this</a></p>

Laboring on Labor Day
<p>Labor Day is next Monday in the US and I have always thought it was funny to be in labor on Labor Day.  I actually came very close two years ago, having my daughter on Labor Day Weekend.  But <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/birthstories/a/ochobirth.htm">she was born the day before Labor Day</a>, August 31st. It was a lovely <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/waterbirth/a/reasonsforwaterbirth.htm">water birth</a>, though I hadn't planned on the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/waterbirth/a/waterbirth.htm">water birth</a>!</p> <p>What about it - do you think about laboring on Labor day?  Or other special days?  Anyone anxious to have a Labor Day baby?</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/08/31/laboring-on-labor-day.htm">Laboring on Labor Day</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/">About.com Pregnancy & Childbirth</a> on Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 at 09:27:47.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/08/31/laboring-on-labor-day.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/08/31/laboring-on-labor-day.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://pregnancy.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/08/31/laboring-on-labor-day.htm&#038;zItl=Laboring on Labor Day">Email this</a></p>
Do you enjoy talking to other moms?
<p>Talking to other pregnant women and mothers was something I didn't quite appreciate when I was pregnant as much as I realize now.  It was the groups that I joined and the friendships that I formed with each of my pregnancies that really helped me learn and grow as a parent.</p> <p>Together as a collective group, all due around the same time, would discuss what was going on with our bodies and our babies.  We'd share stories and offer advice.  It was a really neat way to share what I knew and to learn from other moms.  In the end we each made decisions that were right for us, but we all agreed that we felt supported and stronger because of the relationships.  Years later, I'm still active in many of the groups I joined when I was pregnant. And we're still busy supporting each other as our kids grow.</p> <p>Won't you join one of the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/duedates/a/duedateforums.htm">due date groups</a> and try it yourself?</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/08/30/do-you-enjoy-talking-to-other-moms.htm">Do you enjoy talking to other moms?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/">About.com Pregnancy & Childbirth</a> on Monday, August 30th, 2010 at 09:20:40.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/08/30/do-you-enjoy-talking-to-other-moms.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/08/30/do-you-enjoy-talking-to-other-moms.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://pregnancy.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://pregnancy.about.com/b/2010/08/30/do-you-enjoy-talking-to-other-moms.htm&#038;zItl=Do you enjoy talking to other moms?">Email this</a></p>

<p><img src="http://z.about.com/d/pregnancy/1/5/o/f/3/diapercake10.jpg" alt="" width="130" height="170" /></p> <p>Okay, I like to consider myself crafty, though I'm very obviously no Martha Stewart. Once I even made my own <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://pregnancy.about.com/od/babyshowerfood/ss/butterflycake.htm">butterfly cake</a> for a baby shower. I found that this was a pretty easy thing to do, though I wound up having to make it very quickly, despite my planning, and with the help of three little girls. Heartburn Cures - Safe Methods For Heartburn Relief During Pregnancy
By Henry Bratton

When you are pregnant, it seems that your body works at giving you grief. As if it were trying to rebel for you allowing yourself to get pregnant. However, one of the worst things about pregnancy can be heartburn, so finding heartburn relief during pregnancy can be a top priority. Cocoa butter will take care of the possibility of stretch marks but heartburn can leave you flat miserable. Mainly because there are only so many ways that you can sleep when you are pregnant and you are already uncomfortable enough.

Probably the simplest way to get rid of heartburn is to do what you can to avoid it in the first place. There are of course certain foods and beverages that can result in a very upset stomach, many of them being the ones you will no doubt crave. Foods such as chocolates, carbonated drinks, citrus fruits or juices, tomatoes, vinegar, mustard, mint products and processed meats. Not to mention those spicy foods and the ones that are seasoned a bit too well, or even the fried and fatty foods. I've probably just sank your ship if you crave any of the things on that list. Sorry gals, if you want to try your best to avoid heartburn then these are the ones that you need to steer away from.

I remember when I first got pregnant I figured that was my ticket to being able to eat what I want when I wanted it. Again, another dream went up in smoke. When pregnant

it is actually best to try and refrain from eating any heavy meals. Instead, try to replace those big meals with a few small meals spread throughout the day. So no pigging out and no overindulging yourself over a buffet. Keep it simple girls.

If you already have heartburn though and need some heartburn relief during pregnancy then some simple exercises such as bending at the knees instead of bending at the waist can bring you some relief. Clothing is also something to consider. Try to wear stuff that is loose and comfortable instead of ones that are tight around the waist and baby tummy area.

Something very simple that can help with heartburn relief during pregnancy is to chew some gum before you eat. And your mom told you that bubble gum was bad for you. Nevertheless, if you chew some before eating then that stimulates the saliva glands, which work to neutralize the acids that cause heartburn. Sleeping with a couple of pillows propped under your head can also help to relieve heartburn, as it keeps any acid from making its way back up.

Trying to find heartburn relief during pregnancy isn't always easy because you are always wanting to make sure that the baby is first on the list of priorities. But all of these remedies that I've listed are truly safe for the baby. No sense in you having to suffer with something if you don't have to.
